Negative taken of Ulysses Grant Dalton, III in a car in 1928. Born on December 13, 1927 in Tamo, Jefferson County, Arkansas, Ulysses Grant Dalton, III is the son of Ulysses Grant Dalton, Jr. (b. Jan. 1897) and Alma E. Rogers Dalton. Dalton's father and grandfather operated one of the first African American owned cotton gins in the area. Dalton attended Pine Bluff Public Schools for elementary and secondary levels, graduating from Merrill High School in 1945. U.G. Dalton, III received a B.S. from Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal (A.M. & N.) College (Now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas; a Master of Music Education and Special Studies from Universities of Michigan and Northwestern; and a Ph. D. from University of Michigan. Dalton has worked as Chairman, Department of Music, Alcorn University (Now Alcorn State University), Jefferson County, Mississippi; Professor of Music, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; a band director in public schools; Assistant Band Director and Arranger, United States Marines; and Counselor, Public Service Career Program, Department of Corrections. Dalton serves on many boards and committees including President, Board of Directors, Pine Bluff Citizens Boys Club; Executive Secretary, A.M. & N./ U.A.P.B. National Alumni Association; President, Pine Bluff Pan Hellenic Council; Chairman, Planning Committee, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 41; and President, Gamma Psi Sigma, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Dalton married Helen Louise, with whom he had two sons, Glenn Laque Dalton and Ulysses Grant Dalton, III. Ulysses Grant Dalton, III died on July 15, 1989.
